Five Rejected 'Bing' Search Engine Names
Microsoft wants you to forget their doomed “Live Search” as well as the giant “Google” to find game cheats and celebrity hotties with ….”Bing?” Bing (previously code-named Kumo) is Microsoft’s expensive attempt to replace “Live” and slice a big piece of Google’s search engine domination pie for themselves. And they’re...

Vanity Facebook URLs Coming
For years finding your lost high school buddy on Facebook meant flipping through endless searches and hoping a name and picture matched up to your memory.
It would seem logical that a social network would work your socially recognizable name into it’s system instead of the prison ID number style they have going on currently. Starting this weekend, Facebook usernames will be available in...

Comedy and Clam Chowder
Recently I posted this little diddy onto Craig’s List in Knoxville to find some funny people to help out with some comedy shorts:
We’re looking for a few good natured, reliable and funny people to round out an ensemble cast for some web-based sketch comedy videos. We are a group of 4 film-makers/web designers looking for individuals with a good sense of comedy...

Sloss Furnace, A Hobo Paradise
Down in the heart of Birmingham, Alabama, you’ll find the Sloss Furnaces nestled between Interstates a run-down and rusty little monument dedicated to the iron making that once fueled the town.
It was operated as a pig iron-producing blast furnace from 1882 to 1971. After closing it became one of the first industrial sites (and the only blast furnace) in the U.S. to be preserved for...

11 Predictions That Back to the Future Part II Got...
The Back to the Future movies, like the Matrix movies, started out strong but went downhill fast. The second Back to the Future is fun because of the wild predictions that it had for our future. People still desire the hoverboards and flying cars but I doubt we will ever see them in our lifetime or the Back to the Future II timeline set in 2015.
After a deep thought about flying cars I get a...

‘BEHIND THE SEAMS COSBY SWEATERS Part 1 of 3’
Growing up in the 80’s I was subjected to the cruel punishment of the sweaters that Bill Cosby wore on TV.
The true story is that a feisty Dutch fashion man named Koos van den Akker created the Cosby knitwear using his signature Frankenstein method of stitching together portions of different materials. As a young man, Koos ran a...

Japan Makes Cool Toys
This 1/6 Iron Man “toy” is highly articulated and only lacks an electrical power source like the real Tony Stark. I wish they made toys like this when I grew up. Of course I’m sure I would not have been able to afford it…
The hands open and close and they didn’t even skimp on the facial features of Robert Downey Jr. How cool!

Vintage DHARMA ads from LOST
This week’s episode gave me my Evangeline Lilly fix so all is good. Then I came across this fabulous Vintage DHARMA ad collection featuring some of the finest products of the DHARMA Initiative being promoted.
Someone had some fun with their copy of Photoshop and they deserve a nice round of applause. It’s been a crazy day with the blog today and it was nice to end the night on a...

C&D on a junky week
Halfway through a crappy week. I walked out to the car this morning to go to work and noticed what looked like my car window rolled all the way down. To my pleasant surprise it was not down but rather in 15,000 pieces on the pavement.
Some nice person decided to rid me of my burden of listening to music on my morning commutes and was gracious enough to take my CD player and Sirius radio. ...

Watchmen and Dr. Manhattan's Huge Blue Dong
The Watchmen movie, if nothing else, stuck close to the graphic novel as much as a Hollywood movie could. Eliminated from the flick are the entire “Tales of the Black Freighter” and “Under the Hood” sub-plots as well as the entire newstand banter for obvious time reasons.
The Watchmen cram most of the rest of the story into the 2 hour, 43 minute runtime with the...

Mini Me
A very breezy and cold day in Birmingham, Alabama, at the Vulcan Park. The statue on the right is the small model of the statue on the left. You can travel up that cement tube in the middle to stand directly under Vulcan’s butt. Good view of the city, though…
Who Watches the Watchmen?
All of us have been spoiled by technology. The great thing about living in Knoxville is that we are home to Regal Theaters. That means we have a kick-ass theater out in Turkey Creek with an IMAX.
That also means we are spoiled. With the highly anticipated “Watchmen” movie finally making its way to theaters there is no way we would not see it on a regular screen.
The only...

Thank You, Evangeline Lilly
I gotta admit I’m hooked on “Lost.”
Thankfully my unhealthy obsession with actress Evangeline Lilly has helped out. That above image is from a post I did on D/T last August about “Lost” airing on G4 and that image being the main reason I got into watching the show.
Whenever “Lost” airs new episodes the D/T site gets bombed by people looking for that...
The End Of A Long Day
The end of the day is here and it’s only halfway through the week! Frack!
The good news is that the Dave and Thomas site is finally up. It took a lot of time with the tech people and even more time reinstalling some files but the good news,…scratch that…, the great news is that the posts/images were not lost.
Where would the world be if this had left the Internet?!
At least...
